WHAT IS TOYL?
We are a beauty, lifestyle and treats subscription box for woemn over 40 who want products suitable for us.
ARE THESE JUST RANDOM PRODUCTS?
Absolutely not. We only supply either full size products or luxury travel sizes because we want you to be able to see if a product really works for you. If we have included a sachet it is NOT part of the value of the box, but a FREE bit of fun for you to enjoy!
HOW ARE THE BOXES PUT TOGETHER?
Each month, we've thought about how your skin or colour palette might be changing with the seasons, what our research shows are the top beauty issues for women over 40 and new amazing brands that we want to show you.
For example, in January we look at home spa, May we start on spring colours, in summer we go for body care and great colours and in the autumn we start looking at brilliant skincare. We also have our December ShowStopper box packed with your favourite brands from the year. We don't just throw them together!
ARE YOU VEGAN AND CRUELTY FREE?
We absolutely have vegan products in the box, but that's not our main thing. Our Main thing is products that work for women over 40.
No one believes in animal testing these days and no product sold in the UK has been tested on animals.
WHAT ARE YOUR SUSTAINABILITY AND ECO CREDENTIALS?
We take these issues very seriously.
All packaging is fully recyclable except the tape on the front which is being phased out. We’ve just moved to a new type of plastic bubble bag if we need to use, which is more eco friendly than others. All packing peanuts are starch-based so dissolve.
Our annual TOYL awards have a sustainable packaging award which in 2021 was won by Oryza who have more recycled ocean plastic in their tubes than any other beauty brand.
We are committed to ensuring that our partners have a modern slavery policy in place
We work with reputable brands who are committed to sustainability i.e. fulfilment house, company that supplies our packaging, product supplier
We try to work with a strong mix of emerging and established brands that offer value and quality products for our audience and actively seek out emerging brands. For example, We work with Freya + Bailey, winner of Arclight (to fast track Black, British beauty brands) not only featuring them in the box, but passing them information on new outlets for their products, effecting introductions
We work with charities that have midlife women in their target demographic. In 2021 we have worked with Dress For Success and in 2022 we are working with 18keys.org and our 2022 charity partner Safe Lives, a domestic abuse charity working with women, men and children. Our March 2022 box will give just under 30% of our profit from each box direct to Safe Lives to help their incredibly important work.
IS IT JUST FOR WOMEN OVER 40?
TOYL was started because there is so little out there for women over 40 and we wanted a space that was ours. All our posts, blogs and videos are about women over 40 BUT if you love the contents of the box there's no reason why you shouldn't buy it - totally up to you and we hope you love it!
IS THE PACKAGING RECYCLABLE?
The box we send products out in is made from recycled card and is fully recyclable. The packing chips are starch and we are moving to eco-friendly bubble bags and tape. The leaflet is also fully recyclable.
DO YOU TELL US WHAT IS IN THE NEXT MONTH'S BOX?
Every month on 18th at 6am we let you know on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube (all @TOYL40) what will be in next month's box. It is also on our website under blogs.
If you want to pause having seen the box you must let us know by 23.59 on 19th of that month, so you have around 42 hours to see the box, think about it and let us know if you want to pause.
This is to be fair to you (we don't want you receiving products you've no interest in) but also to be fair to us as we have to ensure we're ordering the exact right number for everyone. If you miss the cutoff the box will be sent to you but, of course, you can send it back for a full refund.
HOW DO I ORDER?
We are a subscription box that is just £35 each month with FREE delivery (the price also includes VAT).
However, we try to treat you as grown ups so there's no contract, you're not committed to staying with us and you can pause at any time.
Simply sign up on the monthly box page and we'll get your box out to you asap!

WHEN IS PAYMENT TAKEN FROM MY ACCOUNT
Payment is taken on 20th of each month except for your first box, when payment is taken at the time of purchase.
CAN I TAKE A HOLIDAY FROM MY SUBSCRIPTION?
You need to go into your account and press PAUSE/CANCEL. You'll then miss that month's box and only start receiving again if you reactivate it. Remember, if you want to pause the box due out on the 28th of that month, you MUST do this by 23.59 on 19th of each month.
CAN I CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION
You can cancel at any time.
Just log into your account, and press cancel. If you're having problems drop us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll help you.
WHEN WILL MY BOX BE DESPATCHED?
If it is your first box it will be despatched immediately.
Each box after this will be despatched on or just after 28th of each month or the first working day after this, delivered in 3 working days. Do bear in mind that currently there is a UK shortage of haulage drivers so it may, in some circumstances, take a little longer. Bear with us!
WHERE ARE THE PODCASTS?
Ah! The podcasts are released throughout the month and can be found under "Free Bits" on our home page of the website.
WHAT ARE THE NEWSLETTERS?
Every Sunday at 10am we send a newsletter out to opted in subscribers on news for midlife women or thoughts we've had during the week. It will also include more details on the products in that month's box and how to use for best results. We can send you the link to start receiving or it's on the site, just click and add your e-mail. Alternatively, when you sign up for the box, just opt-in to the newsletter at checkout.
WHERE DO YOU SHIP TO?
UK only, but any part of the UK so Northern Ireland and the Islands and Highlands are fine!
MY BOX HAS ARRIVED DAMAGED
First, we are very sorry about this.
E-mail us at email@example.com and, if possible, attach images of the damage.
Let us know the extent of the damage and we will replace the items for you.
MY BOX IS MISSING AN ITEM
We are so sorry about this. Please let us know immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send the missing item by return.
HOW DO I CHANGE MY BILLING OR DELIVERY ADDRESS?
Simple, log into your account and change the details there, but do so before the 20th of each month for that month's box or it will go to the existing address.
CAN I RETURN MY BOX?
Should you wish to return a box back to us, please do so within 14 days of your box being received. After this period, we will not accept your box back for a refund. Please note that boxes will only be refunded if all of the products are returned in good condition.
To return your box back to us, please e-mail us at email@example.com and we will issue you with return details. Returns cannot be accepted without this.
Please note that we are not responsible for covering returns postage fees - it's fine to send your box back via a Standard Delivery Service but we do ask that you keep your proof of postage receipt in the event that your box does not reach our Warehouse.
PATCH TESTING EVERY NEW PRODUCT
We strongly urge you to "patch test" any new products before using as they are intended. Patch Testing is to ensure that the product doesn't react with your skin. If your skin is going to react it's far better to have a small reaction on a tiny bit of skin rather than after you've slathered the product all over your face! Patch Testing protocols are as follows:
1. Apply a small amount of the product behind your ear,. If you are currently using a steroid cream, or have been taking prescribed anti-inflammatory medication, your test may not be accurate. We recommend seeking advice from your doctor before changing your skincare products, as they can give you qualified advice.
2. Wait! A patch test is normally left on for 24-48 hours, however if you are prone to reactions it is a good idea to leave on for 48 hours. This will allow time for delayed reactions to appear. However, if you feel any irritation at all immediately wash the product off and, if required, seek medical advice.
3. Review results. If there is redness, any irritation or itching then desist use immediately and seek medical advice.
HOW DO YOU GET THE PRODUCTS AT SUCH GREAT PRICES?
This is a really interesting question.
Have you seen how many beauty brands are out there? Thousands, but what we know about midlife women is that you want to know more about their products. You want to know about their plastics policy, sustainability, why they are different and how to use for best results. We give brands a platform to say this to you in a neutral space. Likewise, how are you going to love a brand if you don't try it? At the same time, we want to support amazing new brands so that you can try products you might not have before, but once you do, you might love them!
Yup, we're going to bring you Podcasts, news, ideas and videos all based around the box contents and anything fabulous we've seen to support you for a happy mid-life. We don't believe in denial about getting a few years older but we do believe in having the Time Of Our Life!
